Single-use coffee cups
Every year in the UK, people use 2.5 billion takeaway coffee cups, that’s enough to stretch around the world five and a half times! But here’s the tricky bit: even though the cups look like paper, most of them are lined with plastic. That means only 1 in 400 cups can actually be recycled. The rest end up in landfill, or worse, in our environment. But don’t worry, there’s an easy way to help!
👉 The solution? A reusable cup!
Whether it’s Mum’s morning coffee, Dad’s hot chocolate, or your own reusable water bottle, choosing reusables means less rubbish and less harm to wildlife.
This September 2025, the 2-Minute Foundation is inviting families to take part in The Coffee Cup Challenge. It’s a fun way to show you care for the planet while saving cups from landfill.
Here’s how your family can join:
Pick a reusable cup or bottle for each family member.
Use it whenever you grab a drink on the go.
Count how many single-use cups you’ve saved by the end of the month!
Together, we can prove that single-use is no use.
